Decor
Recently I’ve gotten asked what I would do in my playroom if I had only boys. My current playroom is rainbow theme with bright pops of pink, teal, yellow, green, and red. Overall I think its pretty gender neutral, I mean boys like color too? LOL However, some people love a more masculine feel for a boy only space.
I’m crushing hard on this modern, colorful look I’ve created, and now I’m wanting to create it in real life.
Below I’ve gathered a few mood boards full of shoppable content by simply clicking on the image.
The Breakdown
I would keep my cactus color Nugget Comfort as the focal point like I do in my current space. However, the first thing I would change would be a new rug!
I love my current rug and it has held up for years. Although, I could see how the patten could be considered more “girly.” Therefore, a new rug would give this space a whole different feeling. The rug I’ve selected ties in the teal/dark mint color to the Nugget, but also has primary colors that gives off a more “masculine” look.
The second change would be new throw pillows. An easy swap, my pillow choices would be the following:
- tiger pillow gives off that “wild” boy feeling.
- white pom pillow because it’s a great neutral, but also has a great texture to it.
- go bananas pillow is my hands down favorite! I’ve had my eye on it for a long time, and it also plays into the whole jungle/ tiger pillow.
All three pillows help make a cozy lounge or reading spot for you and the kids.
Let’s Work
Having a kids table and chair is a great addition to a kids play space. This is the perfect spot for them to play and create! Think coloring, crafts, puzzles, magna-tiles … the list goes on. Having this is a staple in our kids play area.
I’ve selected this modern white dipped table and chairs. It comes in other colors too, but I love the classic white. Isn’t this the cutest set?! I’m obsessed with anything white dipped and natural wood right now.
Wall decor
I would decorate the wall space with a white book ledge and hang festive garlands from it. I’ve done this in my current space and I love changing out the garlands for the seasonal holidays. I would also mix in a letterboard with a quote or saying on the shelves.
The printed artwork alongside the white rainbow would be so sweet in a little reading corner or above a toy storage. When decorating a wall space, I like to hang printed art mixed with objects. This gives a gallery wall a little character and depth.
Bookshelf Decor
I love displaying nicer whimsical objects because they don’t look out of place in a play space but help dress up the space. Although, these objects aren’t necessarily toys for little ones. The soul purpose of these is to make it look cute! LOL
The balloon dog, retro clock, camera, and other items would be so precious on any shelving unit.
Toys
The items below are a round up of two categories. Some of these items are LOVED by Luke and Scarlett; while others are toys that can also double for decor pieces.
For example, the wooden name tracer that you see below is educational, but can also be displayed on a shelf! The quality of this piece is so pretty in person and the wood is SO SMOOTH!
A Little Bit Extra
Okay, while I was creating this space above I found so many other cute and vibrant finds that I felt I had to share them too. Below I’ve linked playful rugs and throw pillows I found that would be perfect for any kids space.
Playful Area Rugs
I’ve rounded up my recent area rug finds. These rugs are fun for any kids space! They are: bright, playful, and whimsical – my ultimate love for kids home decor.
Throw Pillows
I stumbled on these throw pillows and most of them are all on SALE! Although, act fast because this mega sale (70% off ) ends today!!
As I mentioned above, I love adding throw pillows to my Nugget Comfort or reading corner. It makes any space feel cozy and pulls together the decor.
