Christmas Nostalgia
What are your Christmas Memories filled of?
Did you know Christmas is my favorite holiday? I love decorating for the season as well as creating memories with my family. A tradition our family has practiced since…well, as far back as I can remember.. is visiting my Grandparent’s home every Christmas Eve to celebrate with the full family.
I’m talking about the whole gang.. and y’all there’s a ton of us. All packed in one home are my Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins (which if I include myself- there are 18 first cousins on this side of the family) and now we some of us older cousins are married and have kids. It’s a lotttt of people. lol
Grammy and Grandad’s living room seems to have an electric buzz of excitement as we celebrate around the Christmas tree that has been covered in tinsel and vintage ornaments. When I think about why I love Christmas so much, these are the memories that come to my mind. Christmas gives me (and many others) all those nostalgic childhood feelings that we treasure and love to recreate with our own kids.
While reflecting on my Christmas memories, I realized a lot of Grammy’s Christmas decor was actually passed down from her mother, my great-grandmother. Most of these decor items probably came from the era of the 50’s and 60’s… with a mix of 70’s.
Wanting to give my Christamas decor a refreshed look; I headed to Walmart.com and came across so many new home items that reflected my nostogic Christmas memories. I instantly became inspired to create a room design board with all my finds! I would consider my completed room design to be retro with a twsit of modern and a splash of color. It sounds like a lot- but it works and I love it! š
I’m honestly always so impressed with the Walmart Home section! Walmart Home carries variety of items that cover all of your home decor needs. You can find lamps, furniture, decorations, organization products…all in one place! I also personally love Walmart home items because they are on trend and listed at friendly prices; making home decorating an enjoyable experience.
So, if you’re wanting to create a nostalgic Christmas wonderland throughout your home this year; Walmart Home is the perfect one stop shop! I hope you enjoy my room desgin and feel inspired to mix up your Christmas decor with a splash from the past this holiday season.
Room Design Details
Living Room: No fireplace? No problem. Walmart has you covered! In our previous home we didn’t have fireplace or mantel to decorate and I found it so challenging to decorate during Christmas time. I would have loved one of these furniture pieces, because to me it doesn’t feel like Christmas if there’s no cozy fire to curl up next to. Therefore, this fireplace tv stand is a must have in the vision board.
A BLUSH PINK TREE? Umm… yes, please!! As a pink loving girl I thought the pink blush tree is a must have!! I could see it filled with so many colorful vintage inspired ornaments that you can see on the second vision board below. This tree is also 6ft and an amazing price friendly option! A total steal if you ask me!
Moving onto the shatterproof ornament wreath. (I thought it would work great in the home or on a front door.) I love the retro look of this ornament wreath. It instantly caught my eye! The colors of the ornaments are so vibrant, but also soft and delicate. For example, the pastel blue and lilac mixed in with the hot pink. LOVE IT.
When I stumbled on this FA LA LA art print I thought it would perfect framed in a simple gold frame. (At the bottom of this post you’ll find that I linked other art prints that could be framed as well.)
Paired with the modern art print I selected a black and white Nutcracker (I’m obsessed with him) and nestled him next to two colorful trees. On the opposite side, I balanced the fireplace TV stand with a set of 3 gold candlesticks. I love the modern feel of these and how versatile they are for all year round.
Kitchen/Dining: Like most homes nowadays… our home is an open concept floor plan. Meaning you can see living, dining, and kitchen areas from the couch. Therefore, I included this adorable white retro fridge because it would be visible to the entire home. In my opinion it easily becomes a statement piece for the entire space and in my opinion, gives a home a really unique charm. I would think it would probably also be a great conversation starter amongst guests.
Along with the kitchen items, I adore these gold rimmed champagne glasses. They’re so cute, but also help tie in the modern twist to this room design. Did you know we love having mimosas as a family on Christmas morning? Every if you don’t enjoy a mimosa.. drinking OJ out of a fancy glass is fun as well! š
Paired with the gold rimmed glasses / my Christmas mimosa lol.. I envisioned enjoying breakfast cooked with pink pans and served with this black and white dotted dish set. These dishes pull in the black and white modern style items in the room. (p.s. I originally considered this dish set because I love anything and everything that is vintage milk glass… and these plates also had scalloped edges, but I felt like the dotted plates fit this full room design the best.)
Last, but not least, is the hot pink Nutcracker and the glass Christmas tree. This tree completely reminds me of my Grammy’s Christmas decorations and I knew it was a must have. (The glass tree also comes in white and green as well.)
I hope you enjoy my Walmart Home finds. Tell me in the comments which item is your favorite? As for me, I’m so torn because I love them all and will be adding all my items to my Walmart cart this season!
