Back to school means back to more consistent blogging for this mama! This summer has been a hectic one for our family. Between moving multiple times, daily mom life, house work, and family vacations …. there hasn’t been much time for much else.
This school year both of my kids will be enrolled in Mother’s day out. Being alone during the day will be a first for me since Scarlett was born three years ago. I had Scarlett and Luke so close together, (21 months apart) so I’ve always had a baby at home with me.
I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m having mixed feelings. On one hand I’m sad because Luke is officially a big boy, but on the other I’m excited to have a few hours to myself during the day!
Hi, I’m New Here
With Luke starting “school” for the first time, I thought it would be fun to share my favorite back to school themed books. As a former teacher, I had a few books on hand for the images below. However, there’s so many children books that make for the perfect night before school read aloud. (It also might be fun to create a week long event. Maybe consider reading a different book each night!)
Make Reading Fun
Creating a gift basket full of back to school themed books is a fun way to present reading to kids that might be nervous, aren’t excited to go back, or don’t enjoy reading.
To create my back to school book basket; I attached my favorite handwritten chalk name tags to a basket that was in our closet.
In my opinion, adding these tags give my selected books a little something extra. I find that when a gift is personalized it gives an appeal that can get anyone excited. In other words, seeing your name makes you instantly want to explore whats in front of you.
I used these tags on our Easter baskets and love the special touch it brings to any holiday gift. The quality of these tags are so good and I love that they are cut and handwritten by a mom! Her creations also come in various colors and shapes! You can check out the tags HERE.
If you’re a little extra like me…
To expand on your book basket presentation you can always create a themed corner like I did here. This table and two shelves are located in our playroom and I’m constantly changing out whats on display. I usually find most of my items in the Target dollar spot. I linked the few items I could find online ( plus some other fun decor finds) if you would like to recreate this back to school look.
A few of my favorite touches are the three banners from one of my favorite shops. You can shop all three of these banners at the bottom of this post.
This small shop carries so many festive holiday items that are impeccable quality. The colors, designs, and quality always have me going back for more.
