The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the highlights here in Houston. It happens around the same time every year and is about a month long event. Just about everyone in Houston attends and everyone dresses in their best western wear.
People travel from all over the country to participate in the Rodeo! With the live animals, carnival, and so much more; this is an event you want to bring your little ones to!

Top Ten Rodeo Activities for Kids
- Pig Races – yep, its just that. Little pigs that race around a ring! Scarlett got to participate and be a team leader for our bleacher section. She stood next to the track with the flag and waved it for our group to cheer! She felt SO PROUD!
- Mutton Bustin’ – This is an activity where you have to enter prior to the Rodeo. The child has to be ages 5-6 to ride the sheep. Even if your little one doesn’t participate; it’s SO FUN to watch!!
- AGVENTURE – birthing center. Here you can witness animals who are expecting give birth to their babies. It is incredible to witness if you are lucky enough to catch the action.
- Fun on the Farm – This is an interactive experience where little ones can explore farm life. From milking a cow, climbing into a real tractor, participate in everyday chores, and so much more!
- Petting Zoo – The petting zoo is pretty self explanatory but it has a nice set up for hand washing and cleaning afterward. We skipped over this activity this year because it was so crowded – so make sure you arrive early in the day for all the fun!
- Pony Rides – Watch your little one ride the pony around the ring.
- The Junction Carnival – is the kids carnival. This area is aligned towards pleasing your little ones. It is the section of the carnival with rides and games geared towards young kids.
- Pedal Tractor Pull – For Age group 4 – 12 years old. The kids can compete in a tractor pull competition.
- Camel Rides– Even if your child doesn’t want to ride the camel. You still need to swing by to see them in person! My kids were so excited to look at them and compare to what they see in storybooks.
- Carnival Food– Come to the carnival with an appetite!! There are SO MANY delicious food options and desserts!
