Luke turned 3!! I still can’t believe my little dinosaur lover is so big! I feel like we were just celebrating his 2nd birthday! WOW, time is such a thief.
To celebrate I gave Luke a few choices on his theme and of course he picked dinosaurs! With Covid I kept the party small, however, I still wanted it to be fun and of course cute! LOL Ya’ll know I can’t help myself (even if I’m 7 months pregnant with our third baby!)
Enough babbling… lets get started on the party details!
Colors Scheme
I messed around with a few color palates before I settled on my colors. I wanted the look of the party to be kid friendly but also not too grown up. When I came across these Dino favor party bags I knew this was it!
Decor
It’s not a party without a balloon garland! I’ve said it before, but garlands are my absolute favorite way to make a statement in your decorating!
A balloon garland is visually exciting, gives your party lots of colors, and the best part – you also don’t have to store it in your closet afterwards!
I absolutely love the way my balloon garland came out! Tiffany, Glamfetti, created it for me and I hung it using twine and push pins.
Glamfetti also provided the confetti and acrylic “dig in” sign that I displayed next to the cake!
The set of 4 giant dinosaur balloons can be purchased HERE.
Rex Balloons can be purchased HERE.
Balloon Mosaic
Something new you might see at this party is the giant 3D balloon number 3! I teamed up with Lilly, from The Creative Heart Studio, to create her famous balloon mosaic at home!
Lilly sells these balloon number DIY kits and oh my gosh – It was WAY easier to assemble than I anticipated! She made the directions so easy to follow by including tips and full diagrams per step. I LOVE the way my balloon mosaic turned out and I will totally be doing this again in the future! Thank you Lilly, I’m now hooked on making these! š
Tablescape
Ellie and Piper Co provided the wooden cutlery and the teal and gold trimmed plates. I layered the dino platter on top to pull in some mint from the balloon garland. The kids also LOVED eating off the dino plates and drinking from t-rex cups!
In the center of the table I displayed my DIY binoculars which we used for the dinosaur egg hunt. Which leads me to our activities…
Kid Themed Activities
Luke and his friends are at the age where they enjoy make believe. While brainstorming different ways to keep them busy- the idea of a dinosaur egg hunt came across my mind.
I thought I would add to the the hunting experience and created DIY binoculars to spark some extra excitement.
To get started I purchased craft rolls, spray paint, and washi tape. I then assembled the binoculars and it took me no less than 5 minutes to complete.
Assembly Tip* hot glue the craft rolls together before you spray paint! This helps the rolls stand up while drying and also allows them to stay secure for play. (I originally bought the washi tape to connect the rolls. However, I quickly realized it was much harder to assemble and probably wouldnāt hold up well. I still wrapped the rolls with washi tape because it added to the look I was going for.)
Each little dino hunter got binoculars and a bag to collect their eggs. The eggs I used were pre-stuffed and possibly the best amazon find ever!
HERE are the eggs I used- a set of 60! They came filled with different dinos and are listed at a friendly price point! Can I get an AMEN!? LOL
Management Tip* before the egg hunt I had my dino friends line up at the front door like they would in school. (they all knew exactly what to do- so that was nice!) I then introduced the binoculars and briefly told them why we would want to use them. This little speech really paid off and got the kids super excited to use them. It was so cute watching the kids walk around with them glued to their face! LOL They were soooo into it!
Another activity I included at the party is a sensory kit station. I did this for Scarlett’s 4th birthday and it was a massive hit. So of course, I had to do it again! I set out a table and two play dough kits from my friend Julie’s shop! If you haven’t heard of Young Wild and Friedman – her sensory kits are THE BEST! Julie has tons of themes in her shop and the play dough is hand made! (tip* If you keep the dough wrapped after each use it will last you months!)
To create this open play corner; I wrapped the table with wrapping paper I found at Home Goods! If you’re new around here – using wrapping paper is my favorite party hack! It helps you save on table covers, adds color, and it’s disposable! I just wrap the tabletop like a present by folding the corners and taping under the table ledge… and wow – it makes a huge difference!
Party Favors
I used the same party bags that we used for the egg hunt. (I just doubled my order number to keep my life easier… plus they were just too cute!) Inside I added dino themed items: tattoos, bubbles, finger puppet, stamp, and eye finger puppets.
Food
I kept the food pretty simple since I was feeding a handful of 2/3 year olds. I ordered pizza and provided sides like fruit and chips. I also laid out appetizers and displayed dino cupcake toppers in a bowl for people to grab the olives, pickles, and cheese off the platter. I decorated the area by layering tropical palm leaves and confetti over the spread of food.
The cake was purchased a local bakery called SWEET! It was priced well and tasted good! I would recommend this shop if you live in the Houston/Memorial area. You can find the cake topper I used HERE.
I hope you enjoyed a look into Luke’s Three Rex Party! Remember, you can always pin my images to your pinterest to save for later! š If you feel inspired to recreate – tag me! I would love to see how it turns out!
